Spain invests €1.22 Bn in six calls for research projects

The Spanish government has approved a set of six calls for projects from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities with a budget of €1.220.4 M, sourced solely from the national budget. The funding is for the recruitment of talent, research and knowledge transfer projects. These calls for projects, which were approved on 28/10/2025, represent an average increase of 40.6% compared to the same calls for projects in 2018.

With a budget of €700 M, the call for "knowledge-generation" projects is the main source of funding for the public-sector research community. Each year, this programme funds fundamental and applied research projects in all fields, lasting three or four years. This call for projects has €25 M more than the previous one.

The other calls are dedicated to:

• public-private partnership projects: the budget for this call for projects amounts to €300 M. This year, the preparation of the budget to be submitted by entities has been simplified, noted the Ministry;
