The European Parliament has decided to create a new Directorate for Academia, Research and Foresight as part of the existing Directorate-General for European Parliamentary Research Services. The decision was taken by the Parliament's bureau, the body which decides the assembly's internal arrangements, on 20/10/2025.

A spokesperson for the Parliament said that the new directorate would "ensure structured collaboration with the academic community, enabling Parliament to consistently access a network of experts who can ensure timely input of high scientific quality at every stage of the legislative process".

The bureau is made up of the EP's president, its 14 vice-presidents and five quaestors, MEPs who are responsible for matters involving members' financial and administrative affairs.
