Helmholtz announces Jan S. Hesthaven as new Vice President for Energy

German research organisation Helmholtz Energy elected Jan S. Hesthaven as its new Vice President on 28/10/2025, according to Helmholtz Energy on 13/11/2025.

Hesthaven is president of Germany's Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), a public research university and research centre for Helmholtz Energy. He has also served as Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and as Founding Director of the Centre for Computation and Visualisation at Brown University in the US. Hesthaven will begin his term at Helmholtz in January 2026.

Helmholtz Energy is a research group of the Helmholtz Association, the largest scientific organisation in Germany. Helmholtz Energy aims to create a climate-neutral energy system. It contains six research centres across Germany.
