Dutch research organisation awards €197 million to eleven large infrastructures

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded €197 million to eleven Large-Scale Research Infrastructures (LSRIs).

The eleven projects, which were announced on 03/11, include a consortium led by Delft University of Technology to work on a virtual model of the Dutch energy system and a consortium led by UMC Utrecht developing an MRI scanner to scan people in motion (see the full list of projects below).

According to a statement by NWO, the projects have raised a further €104m in co-funding, bringing the total investment in this round to €301m.

The statement said that the NWO had awarded nine LSRIs funding but decided to make an extra €37m available, providing financing for two additional projects.

The funds made available by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science to the NWO will enable the construction or renovation of essential research infrastructure.
