UK and China discuss scientific cooperation at joint meeting

The UK and China held the 11^th Joint Commission Meeting (JCM) on science and technology in Beijing, China on 11/11/2025. The meeting, which was co-chaired by Chen Jiachang, China's Vice Minister for Science and Technology, and Patrick Vallance, the UK's Minister of State for Science, Research and Innovation, reviewed the outcomes of scientific collaboration between the two countries and discussed future collaboration.

Both sides agreed that scientific research collaboration is needed to solve global challenges, according to the UK's Department for Science, Innovation, and Technology on 11/11/2025. The countries agreed to focus future research on climate change, planetary sciences, health and agriculture. They noted that some subsectors within these areas were unavailable for government support due to the national security and legislative requirements of the UK and China.

Chen and Vallance also explored the possibility of a UK-China Flagship Challenge call to support climate research.
