QS Sustainability 2026: Sweden's Lund university overtakes Toronto for top spot in rankings

Lund University in Sweden is in first place in the QS Sustainability Ranking 2026, followed by the University of Toronto (Canada) and University College London (UK), according to the results published on 18/11/2025.

Like last year, the top 20 is dominated by institutions from the UK, with eight, and it is the most represented higher education system in Europe, with 108 ranked entries overall. In continental Europe, France is the first country with 77 institutions.

The QS ranking of sustainability "evaluates the social and environmental impact of universities as centres of education and research, as well as major employers with the operational sustainability challenges of any large and complex organisation," QS said.

QS is a higher education analyst and a for-profit services provider with its headquarters in London.
