League of European Research Universities appoints three new chairs

The League of European Research Universities (LERU) has appointed three new chairs, the organisation announced on 19/11/2025. Two chairs were appointed to policy groups and one was appointed to a network group.

The new chair of the Learning and Teaching (LEAR) policy group is Orla Sheils, the Vice Provost, Chief Academic Officer and Deputy President of Trinity College Dublin. She joined LERU's LEAR group in 2021 and became a member of their Steering Committee in 2023. Sheils succeeds Manon Kluijtmans of Utrecht University.

The new chair of the Careers of Researchers and HR (CARE) policy group will be Liz Elvidge, the Associate Director at the Early Career Researcher Institute at Imperial College London. She will take over from Bert Overlaet of KU Leuven in March 2026.

The new chair of the Senior Officers' Network Group (SON) is Raffaella Delli Santi, the Officer for Global Engagement and Alumni Relations at the Faculty of Physics of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.
