European Commission awards €105.6 million in co-funding for doctoral and postdoctoral programmes

The European Commission will provide €105.6 million to co-fund 31 projects as a result of the 2025 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) call for regional, national and international programmes (COFUND), it announced on 18/11/2025. The funding is for 14 doctoral training programmes and 17 postdoctoral fellowship programmes selected.

COFUND, part of Horizon Europe, allows organisations to create or strengthen their own doctoral and postdoctoral programmes. The MSCA-provided funding for the selected programmes will partially contribute to recruiting researchers, including international talent. Institutions are required to get the rest of their funding from their own sources.

The selected projects span a variety of scientific disciplines, including astroparticle physics, forest-based bioeconomy and synthetic cell research. Some of the programmes allow researchers full freedom to propose topics in any field. Many of the programmes are implemented by international partnerships, including with organisations from 47 EU countries.
