Universities and research bodies propose changes to Horizon Europe proposal for 2028-2034

Seven universities and research organisations in Brussels have asked for amendments to the European Commission's proposal for the European research and innovation programme Horizon Europe for 2028-2034.

The organisations have asked for the future research programme, FP10, to have clear, autonomous objectives grounded in the EU Treaty, encompassing research excellence, talent development, societal impact, sustainability and long-term competitiveness.

They also want the programme to strengthen the proven, excellence-driven approaches of the European Research Council and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions. The seven institutions say that FP10 should complement other EU instruments - especially the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) - by reinforcing its long-established identity, mission and governance, while enabling Europe to scale the most promising innovations emerging from FP10-generated knowledge.
