European Research Council Consolidator grants 2025: record budget of €728 million for 349 winners

The United Kingdom has the highest number of winners of the European Research Council's Consolidator grant in 2025, according to the results announced on 09/12/2025.

The ERC awarded a total of 349 grants for a "record budget" of €728 million. The top three countries with the highest number of successful projects are the United Kingdom, with 65 projects, followed by Germany and the Netherlands, with 58 and 40 recipients, respectively.

With 28.02 recipients per 10 million inhabitants, Switzerland is the country with the highest rate of grants per capita. The United Kingdom is 13^th in this ranking (9.35).

The Consolidator Grant is a five-year grant of up to €2m (with the possibility of an additional €1m), intended for researchers who obtained their doctorate between seven and 12 years ago, to consolidate their scientific independence and develop innovative projects in all fields.

Nationals from 44 countries are among the winners of this call, including Germans (48 researchers), Italians (37) and the UK (33).
