EU member states have mixed views over future of European Institute of Innovation and Technology

The future of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) under the next seven-year budget remains unclear, according to a report on discussions on the Horizon Europe programme for 2028-2034.

The EIT was created in 2008 to strengthen the EU's ability to innovate by finding solutions to global challenges and by nurturing entrepreneurial talent to create sustainable growth and skilled jobs in Europe.

According to a progress report drawn up by Denmark, which holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU until December, member states have mixed views about the future of the institute.

Some are concerned that the EIT was not included in the Commission's proposal for the next Horizon Europe framework programme, FP10. Others want to see a proposal from the Commission on reform of the institute, which is expected by the end of next year.
