European Commission launches call for applications for automotive research and innovation expert group

The European Commission has launched a call for applications for the selection of members of an informal Commission Expert group on European Union Research and Innovation for the automotive sector.

The call opened on 05/01/2026 and will close on 02/02/2026 at 17:00 CET. The Expert Group will include around 50 EU organisations from across the automotive ecosystem. Members will consist of automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), suppliers, academia, research bodies, and relevant civil society and mobility organisations.

The expert group’s purpose is to advise the European Commission on the development of future policy initiatives and instruments related to research and innovation in the European automotive sector.

It will bring together sectoral expertise to inform decision-making across the automotive value chain. Specifically, the group will:

• provide knowledge on research and innovation priorities;
• help identify key topics that can strengthen the competitiveness of the European automotive industry;
• contribute to the development of a forward-looking strategic research…
