United States withdraws from nine education and research international organisations and treaties

US President Donald Trump is withdrawing the United States from 66 international organisations, conventions and treaties that "are contrary to the interests of the United States", he announced on 07/01/2026.

Among them, nine are related to education and research:
• Education Cannot Wait: a global, billion-dollar fund for education in emergencies and protracted crises within the United Nations;
• United Nations University: the think tank and academic arm of the United Nations, aiming to help resolve global issues related to human development and welfare through collaborative research and education;
• United Nations Institute for Training and Research: a dedicated training arm of the United Nations system providing training and capacity development activities to assist developing countries and other vulnerable groups and communities;
• Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories: an international research organisation on highway engineering;
