EU strategy to fight racism focuses on education and research

The European Commission has presented its anti-racism strategy, an important part of which is based on promoting anti-racism education and research at national level.

Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, presented on 20/01/2026 an Anti-Racism Strategy for 2026-2030. At the same time, the Commission announced the launch of a joint project with UNESCO in 2026 to strengthen anti-racism education at national level.

"Academic research plays a crucial role in countering racism by providing the evidence base needed for effective anti-racism policies," the strategy says. The Commission will therefore develop guidelines to implement an intersectional approach in research and innovation policy, ensuring that research takes into account the needs of people affected by racism. In parallel, the European Universities alliances are working on strategies and initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion.
