European Commission launches call for evidence to boost women’s participation in research and innovation

The European Commission has launched a call for evidence to help shape the first Action Plan for Women in Research, Innovation and Start-ups.

Open from 23/01 to 23/02 2026, the call aims to collect views on how to boost women’s participation in research and innovation in order to make the European research area (ERA) "the premier destination for women in research and innovation by the end of the decade".

The Action Plan will address persistent gender equality challenges by outlining measures to improve working conditions and career progression for women.

The initiative is aligned with the Choose Europe campaign, endowed with €500 million for 2025-2027 to make Europe a magnet for researchers, "promoting the continent's exemplary research environment, unparalleled quality of life, and dedication to diversity and inclusion".

Commissioner for Start-Ups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, said: "We want women in research, innovation and start-ups to see their future in Europe. That is why we are making Europe the place where their ambition is best supported."
