Times Higher Education and Schmidt Science Fellows launch network to "support interdisciplinary research"

The Times Higher Education (THE) has launched the Global Higher Education Interdisciplinary Network (GHEIN), a new international initiative developed in collaboration with Schmidt Science Fellows to "support universities in strengthening the conditions for interdisciplinary research", they announced on 27/01/2026.

The new network brings together senior university leaders responsible for research from seven regions worldwide, "creating a peer-led space for dialogue, shared learning and the exchange of practical experience".

The aim is to enable participants to explore how interdisciplinary research can be supported in ways that reflect local contexts, rather than promoting a single institutional model, as well as to support senior research leaders in sharing practical insight and strengthening the institutional conditions needed for interdisciplinary research to thrive.
