EUA develops evaluation programme supporting European university alliances’ strategies

The European University Association (EUA) has developed an evaluation programme to support university alliances to reflect on their strategy, governance, quality culture and long-term development.

During a webinar held on 05/02/2026, the EUA presented its Institutional Evaluation Programme (IEP) for alliances. Simona Lache, member of the steering committee of EUA IEP and Vice-Rector at Transilvania University in Brasov, Romania, explained that EUA's Quality Assurance Programme offered alliances an "European, independent, peer-driven and enhancement-oriented evaluation that understands alliances' complexity, respects diversity and supports strategic development rather than formal compliance".

According to Lache, who is responsible for University Internationalisation and Quality Evaluation, as European university alliances are fundamentally different from single institutions, they require an evaluation approach that understands complexity and change, rather than checklist-based models designed for stable national institutions.
