European Commission allocates €120 million for a research partnership on pandemic preparedness

The European Commission has allocated €120 million for a new European Partnership dedicated to strengthening pandemic preparedness.

The European Commission launched BE READY, a European Partnership for pandemic preparedness, on 17/02/2026. This initiative aims to reinforce the European Union’s ability to anticipate, prevent and respond rapidly to epidemics and pandemics. BE READY prioritises cutting-edge research on emerging and re-emerging pathogens and speeds up the development of innovative diagnostics, treatments and vaccines.

The budget of €120m is provided by Horizon Europe and coordinated by the French National Research Agency for HIV, viral hepatitis and emerging infectious diseases (ANRS-MIE). The programme brings together 81 organisations from 27 countries.

It is structured around three key pillars :

• Aligning national research priorities among participating countries and strengthening coordination in pandemic preparedness research through a jointly agreed Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda ;
