European Commission launches €75 million Telco-Edge-Cloud infrastructure

The European Commission has announced the launch of EURO-3C, a €75 million project funded by the EU research and development programme Horizon Europe that will be the first large-scale federated Telco-Edge-Cloud infrastructure.

Announcing the launch on 03/03/2026, the Commission said the project highlighted the EU's capacity to "deliver cutting-edge digital services entirely through its own connectivity infrastructure, minimising reliance on third-country providers". Telco-edge-cloud combines telecommunication networks, edge computing and cloud infrastructure into a single, integrated platform.

The system is designed to bring faster, more secure computing power to users and companies. The Commission said that EURO-3C was in line "with the goals of the Digital Networks Act adopted earlier this year", which were strengthening the single telecom market and increasing technological sovereignty.

With a consortium of 87 members (including telecom operators, cloud-service providers, software developers, research institutions, and others), the project is designed to encourage collaboration…
