European Commission launches survey on European Student Card Initiative post-2027

The European Commission has launched a survey inviting higher education institutions, students, Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) software providers, as well as national and institutional experts, to share their perspectives on how the European Student Card (ESC), Erasmus Without Paper and the Erasmus+ App should develop beyond 2027.

Launched on 10/03/2026, the survey aimed to gather inputs that "will directly contribute to shaping the future direction of the European Student Card Initiative (ESCI), helping ensure it remains user-centred, efficient and fit for the years ahead," said the Commission.

The Commission wanted to understand:
• what works well and should be strengthened;
• what challenges are encountered in practice;
• what improvements would make the biggest difference;
• what should the Initiative prioritise in its next phase?

The survey will remain open until 31/03/2026.

The ESCI aims to create a more inclusive, connected and digital European Education Area where student mobility happens seamlessly. It is built on three main blocks to facilitate learning mobility:
