The Guild sets out measures for EU countries to make European Health Data Space a success

The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities has set out measures EU member states should take for the "successful implementation" of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) "to enhance cross-border health research", one year after its adoption by the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers.

The European Health Data Space is a regulation that aims to establish a common framework for the use and exchange of electronic health data across the EU. It allows certain data to be reused for public interest, policy support and scientific research purposes. The regulation establishes a unified legal and technical framework for electronic health record systems, fostering interoperability, innovation and the efficiency of the internal market.

In a report published in a position paper on 26/03/2026, The Guild outlined six key recommendations for the continued implementation of the EDHS to help academic institutions and individual researchers best comply with the regulation:
