Far-left German party demands end to cooperation with Israeli universities amid West Bank seizures

The parliamentary group of the German left party Die Linke in the country's Parliament has called for sanctions against Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank and a ban on cooperation with Israeli universities, amongst other measures.

German media report that the stance, set out in a position paper presented to the group on 24/03/2026, states that there should be no cooperation with Israeli universities and research institutions in the occupied territories, and that they should be excluded from international research programmes, EU funding and bilateral science agreements.

The paper particularly named Ariel University, located in the settlement of the same name, deep in the West Bank.

Die Linke also demanded that German companies and universities should be required to disclose their activities in the Occupied Territories. If companies are active there, they should be sanctioned and excluded from receiving contracts from the German federal government and its states, it said.
