Cambridge University to establish new school for "global problems" with £190m donation

The University of Cambridge (UK) will open a new school, named Rokos School of Government, "to prepare tomorrow’s leaders to tackle the world’s biggest problems". It will be named after Chris Rokos, a UK billionaire who recently donated £190 million (€217.63m) to the university, the institution announced on 31/03/2026.

The donation commitment, the biggest individual donation made to a UK university in modern times, made possible the opening of the new school, the university added.

"Rokos has agreed to make an initial gift of £130m, plus further gifts of up to £60m, the subsequent amounts to be matched by Cambridge University. The university will also be contributing the undeveloped land in the Cambridge West Innovation District on which the school will be built," the university announced.

The new school will have access to Cambridge’s expertise in technology and the sciences, as well as disciplines more usually associated with the social sciences, arts and humanities.
