Antal van den Bosch, a member of the executive board of the Dutch Research Council (NWO), has announced he is stepping down from the board and as chair of the Social Sciences and Humanities (SGW) domain board this summer. He will take up a new position as vice-dean for research and impact.

His first term as a board member at NWO formally ends on 1/07/2026.

Van den Bosch said in a statement he was “extremely sorry” to have to take the decision. “Both my department and NWO are close to my heart, but over the past year I have realised that I cannot fulfil this combination of roles in a way that does justice to the attention both jobs require,” he said.

Van den Bosch has been chair of the SGW domain board and a member of the NWO Executive Board since 1/07/2023. The process to find his successor will be initiated shortly, NWO said.
