Frankfurt School of Finance & Management partners with Commerzbank on academic hub to help SMEs

The Frankfurt School of Finance & Management has announced a partnership with Commerzbank AG, a bank specialising in lending to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to establish the Commerzbank Mittelstandsinstitut, a new academic hub dedicated to German SMEs.

The aim of the institute, whose launch was announced on 13/04/2026, is to be a collaborative platform to bridge the gap between academic research and practical business applications for SMEs (the "Mittelstand" in German).

The Commerzbank Mittelstandsinstitut aims to address the strategic and financing challenges facing the German Mittelstand by guiding companies navigating technological disruption, geopolitical uncertainty and increasing regulatory demands.

The institute aims to combine academic excellence with entrepreneurial practice, facilitating a structured dialogue between academia, business, policymakers and society. A key goal is to translate research insights into practical applications that can be shared with clients to strengthen the Mittelstand sustainably.
