Georgi Dimitrov joins Roxana Mînzatu's cabinet as expert for education and skills
Georgi Dimitrov has taken up the post of Member of the Cabinet to the European Commission's Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness, Roxana Mînzatu.
Dimitrov announced on 01/05/2026 that he would step down from his position as Head of Unit for Digital Education in the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC

) to focus on education and skills in Mînzatu’s cabinet. He succeeds Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, who, on 16/04/2026, announced her appointment as Head of Department for the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA

) at the European Research Executive Agency.
Having obtained a PhD from FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg, Dimitrov joined the European Commission in 2008 as a policy officer specialising in creativity and innovation, before helping to set up the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT

). He then worked on the HEInnovate initiative in cooperation with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, before taking on the role of deputy head of unit for Innovation and EIT from 2017. In 2021, he became head of unit at DG EAC, with particular responsibility for digital education.
