LERU rectors re-elect Linda Doyle as chair of the board

The rectors of the League of European Research Universities (LERU) have re-elected Linda Doyle as Chair.

LERU announced on 18/05/2026 that Doyle, Provost of Trinity College Dublin, had been re-elected for a second three-year term during the LERU Rectors’ Assembly, held at Heidelberg University on 15-16/05/2026.

The rectors also elected to the board Marina Brambilla, Rector of the University of Milan, Italy, and re-elected for another three-year term, Peter Mathieson, Vice-chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, UK.

Doyle has been Provost of Trinity College Dublin since August 2021 and is a professor of engineering and the arts. She previously served as Dean of Research and founding director of CONNECT, Science Foundation Ireland’s national research centre for future networks and communications.

Brambilla, Rector of the University of Milan since 2024, succeeded Peter-Paul Verbeek on the board. A Full Professor of German Linguistics, she previously served as Deputy Rector for Education Planning, Organisation and Student and Staff Services at the University of Milan.
