European Commission launches multibillion Scaleup Europe Fund

The European Commission has launched its Scaleup Europe Fund with an initial budget of €5 billion, rising to €20 billion in the medium term.

Speaking at the first day of the European Innovation Council (EIC) Summit in Brussels on 03//06/202, Ekaterina Zaharieva, the European Commissioner for startups, research and innovation, said: "In Europe, we have the best deep tech scientists in the world. Last year, we created 27,000 new tech companies, with our tech market growing at over 10% per year. But when these companies succeed and need to scale, we have a liquidity problem... We are launching the new Scale Europe Fund, precisely to help close this funding gap."

The Scaleup Europe Fund will finance investments averaging more than €100 million per company in critical technologies such as AI, quantum, clean tech and space. The first investments are planned for early autumn 2026.

"It will ensure that our companies can find the capital they need here in Europe. It will empower more of our companies to go global while remaining in our Union," she said.
