EIC accounts for 45% of the EU's venture capital investment in quantum technologies

Ekaterina Zaharieva, the European Commissioner for startups, research and innovation, has said she was impressed that fundraising driven by the EIC accounted for 45% of all venture capital investment in quantum technologies and semiconductors within the EU in 2025.

Exposing the results of the European Innovation Council (EIC) impact report 2026 at the EIC Summit on 04/06/2026, the Commissioner said: "It's amazing. That means we are doing a good job and that the private sector sees a higher potential in the companies we invest in. Four out of five big funding rounds were in quantum companies that we invested in."

The impact report also showed that in 2025:
• for every €1 invested by the EIC Fund, €3.5 of private funding was leveraged;
• the EIC Fund has invested in around 350 startups and SMEs and mobilised close to €5 billion in co-investment through private equity with 12 equity rounds above €100 million;
• three portfolio companies in AI and quantum technologies achieved unicorn valuations.
