European Commission sets four guiding principles for digitalisation of Erasmus beyond 2027

The European Commission aims to shape the post-2027 European Student Card Initiative (ESCI+) around four core principles: transparency, user-centricity, continuity and stability, and trust.

Frederic Fimeyer, Head of Department Erasmus+, EU Solidarity Corps at the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission, said, on 11/06/2026: "ESCI+ will really be an evolution of what has been done so far, so it's not a redesign or a redevelopment of everything. We really want to base our next iteration on what we've developed so far, and we want to design it on four principles: transparency, user-centricity, continuity and trust. We want to make sure that we reach this common objective by January 2028."

He spoke during an event in Brussels organised by the European Commission to review the results of the consultation launched in March 2026 to gather inputs to shape the future direction of the ESCI.
