MIT tops the 2027 QS World University rankings for the 15th consecutive year

Massachusetts Institute of Technology has come top for the fifteenth consecutive year in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, published on 18/06/2026 by Quacquarelli Symonds. MIT is followed by Imperial College London and Stanford University, US, this year, which are joint second after Stanford rose one place in the rankings.

The top 10 is clearly dominated by the US, which occupies first and third place and features four times. The UK also occupies four places in the top 10. ETH Zurich - Swiss Federal Institute of Technology is ranked eighth, and the National University of Singapore (NUS) is ranked tenth.

The top five European institutions have changed compared with last year, when the UK occupied the top three places with Imperial College London, the University of Oxford and the University of Cambridge. Then, Switzerland’s ETH Zurich was in fourth place and University College London (UCL) in fifth lpace. This year, University College London shares fourth place with ETH, making it as the only non-UK institution in the top five.
