Coimbra Group teams up with local communities to promote societal well-being

The Coimbra Group on universities has launched the Poitiers-Granada Declaration on collaboration between universities and Ccties.

During the group's annual conference and general assembly in Granada, Spain, they signed on 19/06/2026 the declaration reaffirming and strengthening the commitment of Europe's universities to work hand in hand with their local communities for the well-being of society.

The declaration was signed by Ludovic Thilly, chair of the Coimbra Group Executive Board, Pedro Mercado, Rector of the University of Granada, as well as the Mayor of Granada and the President of the Provincial Council.

The declaration outlines ten key areas for future collaboration between universities, municipalities and regional stakeholders. It stresses strengthening joint governance structures ensuring that research and educational activities benefit local, national, and European communities, and supporting cultural and knowledge-based events that encourage public engagement.
