Council of the EU approves resolution to guide EU-level cooperation in education and training until 2030

The Council of the EU has approved a resolution that will guide EU-level cooperation in education and training until 2030, which includes three strategic priorities relevant to higher education.

The resolution on the second cycle of the strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training towards the European Education Area (2026-2030) sets out the work programme for cooperation at EU level in the areas of education and training over the next five years and was published on 29/06/2026.

The resolution includes an updated set of six strategic priorities:
• literacy, mathematics and science for all;
• developing digital skills and citizenship education;
• making lifelong learning and mobility a reality for all;
• enhancing attractiveness, competences and motivation in the education and training profession;
• fostering European vocational education and training (VET);
• promoting the competitiveness of higher education in Europe.
