Research libraries pledge to preserve and promote European academic values

The research library community in Europe has committed itself to preserving and promoting European academic values by supporting researchers, scientific communities and research data infrastructures.

The association of European research libraries (LIBER) published a statement on 30/06/2026, saying: "LIBER’s Mission is to enable quality research guided by academic values. These are currently facing growing challenges and can no longer be taken for granted."

LIBER added that it focused on reinforcing research libraries as "essential actors in safeguarding and advancing European academic values through their work with researchers, scientific communities and data infrastructures, and in empowering libraries themselves to act in accordance with these values."
