Germany: New federal-state agreement to fund National Research Data Infrastructure from 2029 onwards

The German Joint Science Conference of the Federal and State Governments (GWK) has decided that all ten subject-specific and methodological consortia established in the second National Research Data Infrastructure funding round in 2021 will continue to receive funding after 2029.

The decision, taken on 10/07/2026, follows the recommendations of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) expert panel appointed by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

"Continuing funding for all ten consortia from the second funding round strengthens the NFDI as a science-led network of diverse communities, stakeholders and services," the DFG President, Katja Becker, said.
