The new UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, has scrapped the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) in his new cabinet, after becoming the seventh British prime minister in 10 years following the resignation of Labour Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Due to the Labour Party's majority in the British Parliament, Burnham, the party's new leader, succeeded Starmer on 20/07/2026, after meeting with King Charles III. Starmer announced his intention to quit on 22/06 after local elections produced some of the worst-ever results for the Labour Party, while several Labour politicians and ministers were calling for him to resign.
