Spanish research agency to fund over 4,500 research projects with increased budget of nearly €700m

The Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) has announced that it will fund 3,422 research projects and 1,156 predoctoral contracts with a budget of nearly €700 million, the "biggest in history" for this call.

This record-breaking funding will be part of the AEI's Knowledge Generation Projects 2025 call for proposals, which it announced on 16/07/2026. The pre-allocated budget is €697.6m, representing a 4.5% increase over the previous year. These grants are co-financed by the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).

The call for proposals funds "research projects that promote scientific research and the search for solutions to societal challenges, as well as grants for equipment and training for predoctoral researchers".
