European universities alliances call for realistic student mobility targets

European Universities Alliances representatives recommend setting realistic growth targets for student mobility, as well as greater recognition of innovative formats.

The mobility topical group of the community of practice bringing together alliances of European universities, FOREU4ALL, chaired by Lotte Skovborg from Circle U. and Klementyna Kiela, 4EU+, published a report in July 2026 on the challenges of student mobility within alliances.

The authors emphasised the need to establish a common framework to harmonise the measurement and reporting of trade, whilst maintaining a degree of institutional flexibility. They also outlined four key categories: physical, hybrid and virtual mobility and internationalisation at home.
