Cambridge academic found dead after plagiarism allegations and resignation

A British academic has been found dead following allegations of plagiarism which led to his resignation from the University of Cambridge, UK.

Jason Arday, a former professor of sociology of education at the University of Cambridge, was pronounced dead on 14/08/2026 in south London, according to Reuters. The police have stated that his death is not currently being treated as suspicious and are investigating to determine the cause.

The youngest Black lecturer in the university’s history, Arday resigned from the University of Cambridge and his fellowship at Jesus College, a constituent college of the university, on 05/08/2026 following a series of allegations of plagiarism in his thesis and significant fabrications regarding his personal and professional background.
