Erasmus+: negotiations over the EU’s next budget

As the EU finalises its next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for 2028-2034, negotiations on Erasmus+ are intensifying, revealing a growing gap between European ambitions and calls from several Member States for tighter spending.

Under the Commission's proposal, which foresees a 56% increase in its budget, the programme aims to boost student mobility and the interoperability of tools, whilst simplifying administrative procedures. Roxana Minzatu, Executive Vice-President for Social Rights and Skills, Quality Jobs and Preparedness at the Commission, acknowledged, however, that "this budget will not be sufficient to fund Erasmus for All" and called for synergies with national resources.
