The German Research Foundation (DFG) and US experts aim to further strengthen transatlantic research relations through partnerships, in which universities "play an important role".

The DFG, Germany's central self-governing research funding organisation, held its third German-American roundtable aimed at strengthening transatlantic research relations in Washington, D.C., on 19/08/2026.

DFG president Katja Becker emphasised that the commitment to transatlantic research cooperation "remains as strong as ever on both sides of the Atlantic", despite "recent developments in science policy in both the US and Europe, as well as a challenging geopolitical environment".
