Greenland research institutions decide against starting new projects with US partners due to "mistrust"

Greenland’s two largest research institutions, the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and the University of Greenland, have announced policies against starting new projects with US researchers, citing mistrust between Greenland and the US, following President Donald Trump's attempt to annex Greenland in 2026.

Greenland is an autonomous territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, but Trump demanded that the US take control of the island on national security grounds starting in January 2026.

Both institutions informed, over the summer, that their existing partnerships with US institutions would not be terminated, but that new ones with unknown partners would not be started.
