First alliances to award European Degree Label say it must build recognition among students and employers

Leaders of the first two European university alliances to be awarded the Joint European Degree Label (JEDL) are calling for greater awareness amongst students and employers of the intercultural skills and international experience it certifies, in an interview with News Tank on 31/08/2026.

Through Erasmus+, the European Commission awarded funding to the Joint Master in Marine Biotechnology from EU-CONEXUS and the master's in Global Challenges for Sustainability from CHARM-EU to carry the JEDL in June 2026.

For CHARM-EU, this programme has been running since 2021, but the 2026 graduates are the first to have the label. Meritxell Chaves, Secretary-General of the alliance, said JEDLs "foster competencies that are increasingly important, such as intercultural awareness, interdisciplinarity…
