Universities call for transformative research collaboration between Africa and Europe

Networks of European and African universities have called for the entire sector to embrace transformative research collaboration between Africa and Europe to address common global challenges.

The African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) and the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities published a statement on 31/08/2026 calling on the research sector to adopt transformative, scalable and inclusive research collaboration between Africa and Europe.

The 46 universities of ARUA and The Guild recognised that global science had historically been built on power inequalities. To redress these imbalances and reduce these inequalities, they are already working to establish equitable, long-term collaborations through their cooperation within the Africa-Europe Clusters of Research…
