University of Cambridge launches independent review after Professor Jason Arday's death

The University of Cambridge in the UK is launching an independent review following the death of Professor Jason Arday to examine the university’s decision-making, policies and organisational processes.

The review will comprise two parts, the university announced on 04/09/2026: the first, led by Nazir Afzal, will "examine the university’s support of Arday"; and the second will comprise a "broader review of institutional processes and practice related to his appointment and time at Cambridge".

Arday was found dead on 14/08/2026 following allegations of plagiarism, which led to his resignation from the University of Cambridge. An investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of his death, but the police have stated that it was "not suspicious".
