European ministers discuss internationalisation and Erasmus+ priorities at the 2026 EAIE conference

Ministers of higher education and research from Ukraine, Ireland and Scotland met at the 2026 EAIE conference to discuss the future of international education and the challenges their higher education systems face.

They were joined by Pia Ahrenkilde Hansen, Director-General for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport at the European Commission, during a panel session at the EAIE conference, which took place in Glasgow (UK) from 08 to 11/09/2026.

"Disruption is often necessary as it forces us to grow," Hansen stated after listing "the rise of artificial intelligence, a new era of geopolitics, climate change and demographic challenges" as "transformative challenges" in many societies. She added that "an intensified focus on education and training" had to be central to our response.
