The Study and Research in Africa (SRiA) initiative, funded by the European Commission, has been officially launched. It seeks to foster a robust, visible and interconnected knowledge ecosystem across the African continent, benefiting both Africa and its European partners.

The initiative was launched during the 2026 EAIE conference, taking place in Glasgow from 08 to 11/09/2026. It will run until 2030 and be led by the Association of African Universities (AAU) alongside European partners from different countries. SRiA is being sponsored by the European Union with a total contribution of about €60 million.

The launch was followed by a discussion focused on challenges, opportunities and the future of European-African academic collaboration.
