€188 million for two UK research institutes to boost "vital life sciences and materials research"

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the main government funding agency for engineering and physical sciences research in the UK, has awarded £162 million (€188.59m) in funding to two research institutes to develop new health tech and advance research into advanced materials.

Announced on 15/09/2026 by its parent organisation, UKRI, EPSRC's funding went to the Rosalind Franklin Institute and the Henry Royce Institute.

The funding will be shared over five years between the Rosalind Franklin Institute, which will receive £67.7m (€ 79m) to support its research in next-generation imaging, engineering, biology and diagnostics; and the Henry Royce Institute, which will get £95m (€110m) for research into advanced materials to help deliver the National Materials…
