JRC launches European Water Academy to close skills gaps in Europe's water sector

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission has launched the European Water Academy (EUWA) to close skills and capacity gaps in Europe's water sector and link research with practice for a more water-resilient future.

Bernard Magenhann, Director-General of the JRC, launched on 21/09/2026 the European Water Academy. He said that the water sector was in difficulty: "The workforce is ageing, salaries are below average, skills shortages prevail; the sector is not attractive enough for young talents. This is why the European Water Academy is so important... The community we bring together has a clear task: We must work together to make sure that the water sector becomes more competitive."
