Commission proposes restoring Hungary’s full access to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe

The European Commission has proposed to the Council lifting the safeguard measures adopted in 2022 against Hungary and restoring full access to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe.

The Commission announced on 23/09/2026 that it proposed reopening Hungary's access to Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe and reinstating €4.2 billion in suspended cohesion policy commitments. "Hungary has taken important steps to strengthen the rule of law and protect the Union's financial interests," said Ursula von der Leyen, President of the Commission.
